Report of General Monthly Meeting - January 2018
South Downs National Park by Mike and Hilary Holt
Mike Holt and his wife Hilary gave a presentation on the South Downs National Park. Mike has a long standing interest in photography and in his retirement has produced many audio-visual presentations, together with his wife Hilary providing the voiceover. His presentation of the South Downs Way was a sheer delight to us all. Starting from Winchester, he covered the 100 miles to Eastbourne where the Way ends, giving us beautiful views of the amazing countryside and telling about the places visited. We also learned what to look for en route–church wall paintings, round houses, Bronze Age burial mounds and a collection of strange houseboats were a few of the items identified. It left us wanting to know more and keen for the better weather to arrive so that we can go out at and at least walk a part of the Way to discover more for ourselves.
We all felt that the narration was excellent for its clarity, and that the accompanying music had been most carefully chosen for its appropriateness. It was a most interesting and enjoyable afternoon; we all benefited from Mike’s dedication together with Hilary, in producing the film which must have taken countless hours of painstaking work.
