Report of General Monthly Meeting - February 2019

The Cotswolds by Mike and Hilary Holt

We enjoyed another magnificent presentation from Mike and Hilary, this time taking us on a journey through the Cotswolds. We learned, first of all that the name derives from ‘cots’ meaning sheep pens and ‘wolds’ meaning rolling hills. We saw the delights of many Cotswolds towns and villages, from Chipping Campden through Moreton in Marsh toBourton in the Water, and ending up in Bath.

As an interlude to our Cotswold travels, we enjoyed adigitalised version of film focusing on Edward Elgar – made by Mike and Hilary more than 40 years ago!

With an accompaniment of English music – Holst, Elgar , Vaughan Williams and others – and a commentary by Hilary, we escaped for an hour from the depressing events around us and basked in the sheer enjoyment of the beauty of the English countryside.
